The Croswell’s 2018 summer interns are, in the top row: Ariel Sheets and Emily Baker; second row: Marty Flake and Will Thompson. Third row: Emma Lipson, Justin Palma, Jacob Miller, Dinorah Guillen, and Autumn Filipek.

The Croswell Opera House is pleased to welcome our summer interns for 2018!

Emily Baker is a technical intern this summer at the Croswell. She will be a junior this coming fall at Northern Michigan University where she is majoring in Theater and Entertainment Arts with a concentration in Design & Technology. Her hometown is Muskegon, Michigan. Emily is excited to be working at the Croswell and bettering her skills in carpentry and construction. A fun fact about Emily is that her minor is Welding!

Autumn Filipek is thrilled to be a costume intern this summer. Although she is a senior Early Childhood Education major at Pensacola Christian College she has found a passion for theater in all its forms. Being from Adrian, Autumn grew up going to shows at the Croswell and occasionally volunteering to help backstage and usher. Autumn is pursuing an Art minor in college that, along with years of sewing experience, she applies to help make the costumes the best that they can be.

Marty Flake is a technical intern, specializing in painting, carpentry, and lighting. Marty is from Wixom, Michigan and is a sophomore at the University of Michigan, pursuing a BFA in Theatrical Design and Production. She enjoys the plethora of dogs which scamper around the Croswell, as well as creating art through watercolors and metalworking. A fun fact about Marty is that she enjoys baking and can make a mean banana bread.

Dinorah Guillen is a costume intern for the Croswell. This is her first year here. A junior at DePauw University this coming fall, she is currently double majoring in Theater and Economics (yes, she understands that they are completely different fields). Born and raised in Chicago, Dinorah enjoys bike rides by the lake, reading books (the more the better), and looking at old architecture. A fun fact about her: children terrify her, mainly because she never knows what they are going to do next. One moment they can be sitting calmly, the next moment they have their head stuck in a wall.

Emma Lipson is the box office/arts management intern for the summer. Originally from Connecticut, she just graduated from Knox College with a major in Theater and minors in Arts Administration and Business and Management. When she manages to leave the theater Emma loves hiking, playing connect 4, and binge-watching sitcoms (she just started watching Brooklyn 99). Emma is excited to be at the Croswell this summer and explore Michigan.

Jacob Miller is a technical intern, specializing in carpentry. Going into his fourth year at Grand Valley State University he is majoring in History and Theater (emphasis in acting), with a minor in Music. He is originally from Vicksburg, Michigan and is an amateur blacksmith.

Justin Palma is a technical intern focusing in both lights and sound. He is going into his senior year at the University of New Hampshire in pursuit of a degree in Theatre and Dance with an option in Technical Theatre. He comes from a military family, so he comes to us from Massachusetts, but has lived in places such as California, Hawaii, England, and Italy. He enjoys rock climbing, snowboarding, longboarding, and running. A fun fact about Justin is that his original college major was Chemical Engineering.

Ariel Sheets is a technical intern, with a focus in properties and is returning for her second season at The Croswell. Ariel is from South Lyon, Michigan and is going to be a senior this year at Siena Heights University. She will be finishing her double major in Theatre/Speech Communications and Art. Besides working on theatrical productions, Ariel loves attending shows, hanging out with her friends, and spending quality time with her dogs and hedgehog. She’d like to thank her mother and grandma for supporting and encouraging her on her journey into theatre and reminding her that everything always works out in the end.

Will Thompson is a technical intern from Louisville, Kentucky. He is a fifth year Theatre Arts major from the University of Louisville. Over the course of the summer, Will is going to begin research for his first playwriting project.
