Open auditions will take place in October for three upcoming Croswell Opera House productions, with parts available for both adults and children.
Auditions for “Handel’s Messiah Rocks” will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, and Sunday, Oct. 11. The cast will include mainly adults, with some parts available for high school students. The show will be directed by John MacNaughton, with music direction by Dave Rains and choreography by Jessica Adams. Rehearsals will run about six weeks, and performances will take place Nov. 28-29 and Dec. 4-6.
Auditions for the children’s Christmas production of “The Story of the Nutcracker and the Mouse King” will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Auditions are open to any student from first through eighth grade. If needed, callbacks may be held on Sunday, Oct. 18. The show will be directed by Julianne Dolan, with music direction by Wynne Marsh and choreography by Eleanore Brown. Rehearsals will run about six weeks, and performances will take place Dec. 5 and Dec. 11-13.
Auditions for “Red, Hot and Cole,” the Croswell’s annual all-area high school production, will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26. “Red, Hot and Cole” is a tribute to the music of Cole Porter, and it will be directed and choreographed by Sarah Nowak with music direction by Dave Rains. Rehearsals will begin in November, with a break for Christmas and New Year’s, and will run through January. Performances will take place Jan. 23-24 and Jan. 29-31.
Auditioners should prepare a short musical selection, between 16 and 32 bars in length, and bring their own sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Auditioners should also wear or bring loose, comfortable clothing and be prepared to dance.
Auditioners can typically expect to be at the Croswell for about an hour.
